On January 4, 2026, Uglyz Cafe & Bar was proud to host the 10-Year Anniversary Celebration of Gurkha FC — a remarkable milestone for one of the biggest and fastest-growing Nepali football clubs in New Zealand.

What began as a simple idea between just two friends — coming together to play football as a way to relieve stress from overseas work life — has grown into something truly special. Over the past decade, Gurkha FC has evolved from friends, to family, to a strong and united community.

Today, Gurkha FC stands as more than just a football club. It represents connection, culture, and community spirit. One of its proudest achievements is the Everest Cup, an annual tournament where Nepali football clubs from all over New Zealand travel to Auckland to compete, connect, and celebrate the love of the game.

The journey hasn’t always been easy. In the early days, Gurkha FC was self-sponsored, driven purely by passion and commitment. Seeing the club now supported by local businesses and council sponsorships is a powerful reminder of how far it has come — and how much impact it continues to make within the community.

The anniversary celebration at Uglyz Cafe & Bar was filled with great food, shared stories, laughter, and pride. It was an honour for us to host such an inspiring community event and be part of this historic moment for Gurkha FC.
